Gold Fever

1948 was they year they say gold was discovered in California. First in in the rivers, but later in the hills that feed the river in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Those miners who wanted to bypass Sacramento would often travel up the rivers to the last disembarkment on the riverbanks of the Yuba in the town of Marysville.

The gold was abundant and flowed down the rivers that lead right to Marysville. Some say gold is present in the rivers that surround the city still.
When it comes to California gold mining history, most people are well versed in the history of towns like Sutters Creek, Sonora, Nevada City, Auburn, etc.

But the truth is, Marysville bustled and grew like no other. While many gold mining towns either remained small towns, or completely faded away, Marysville grew to be the 4th largest city in California.

But unlike many of the other gold mining municipalities, Marysville continued to grew after the gold miners left the hills.
